Artworking page layouts for catalogues like the biannual Argos catalogue isn’t groundbreaking. But design is design at the end of the day. Secrets be told a good page layout conundrum can be an interesting and well spent afternoon.

‘So, you want all this content in that space and you want it readable? Well OK, lets do this!’

This is generally what happens twice a year when the Argos team get in contact.

Argos supply page templates and a new asset pack for each publication. Meaning after the creative has been finalised with the product creators, the precision work starts. The final print artwork needs to be an absolutely pixel perfect, brand conforming version of the sometimes rough Illustrator creative before it gets approved by the Argos team. Producing print artwork means adding InDesign to the design process. Including it with Photoshop and Illustrator to produce print ready, millimetre perfect layouts is actually quite therapeutic.
